Rising Above the Cold: Tony Mo Reiss Heats Up at Champion City Cup

Elite Team Tacky Saks’ star player conquers gusty winds and frigid temperatures to claim top honors.

Springfield, Ohio, March 18, 2023 – Under overcast skies and flurries, disc golfers from across the region convened in Springfield, Ohio, for the much-anticipated Champion City Cup Presented by Discraft. Unfazed by the biting 20°F temperature and blustery 20 mph winds, Tony Mo Reiss of Elite Team Tacky Saks showcased his exceptional skills and determination, clinching a well-deserved victory.

Spearheaded by Chris Perkins and co-directed by the talented trio of Luke Campbell, Blake Shaffer, and Rachael Young, the event was a PDGA-sanctioned B-tier singles tournament, showcasing a two-round shotgun start format. Competitors were divided into A and B Pools, ensuring that each group had the opportunity to experience both of Springfield’s stunning courses, Snyder Park DGC and Buck Creek State Park, for one round each.

Tony Mo Reiss (PDGA #47136), a skilled disc golfer from Springboro, Ohio, emerged as the undisputed champion, completing the tournament with a remarkable 13-under-par total of 116. In a closely contested battle, Jeremiah Kraus (PDGA #38737) of Beavercreek, Ohio, finished just a single stroke behind, securing a 12-under-par score. Nipping at their heels, Andrew Martin (PDGA #54302) and tournament co-director Luke Campbell (PDGA #150882) displayed their prowess on the course as they shared the third place spot with equally impressive 11-under-par performances. Notably, Luke Campbell had an exceptional Round 1 performance, scoring an outstanding 9-under-par at Snyder Park.

Recounting the day, Reiss reflected on the challenging weather conditions and his performance. “The first round was less than spectacular, missing some inside circle putts and messing up some forehand ups,” he said. “But battling through the round and getting 17 and 18 felt good going into the second round, only two off the lead.” Reiss then proceeded to excel in the second round, where he faced off against fierce winds on the back 10 holes, ultimately sinking a 55-foot putt for the win.
