Honoring Scott Burnett: Tony Mo Reiss Rides the Wind to Victory at the Open

Communing with the Wind: How Reiss Triumphed in Scott Burnett’s Breezy Arena

In an exhilarating display of precision and poise, Tony Mo Reiss proved why he’s a force to be reckoned with in the disc golf world. This past weekend, at the renowned Arthur O. Fisher Park and Echo Valley at Hoffmann Reserve, Reiss showcased his stellar skills, clinching the Scott Burnett Open Championship title with a convincing triumph.

Reiss, who hails from Springboro, Ohio, set an impressive pace from the very beginning of the tournament. His first-round performance at the picturesque Fisher Park, known for its challenging wind conditions, was a masterclass in strategic play. He embraced the gusty terrain just as the late Scott Burnett, for whom the tournament is named, would have done. Reiss ended the day with a solid 53, leading the pack and setting the stage for the second round.

“On Saturday, as I stepped on the tee, I smiled,” Reiss shares. “Scott loved AO Fisher because it was always windy out there, and he gave it to us!”

For the second round, the competition moved to Echo Valley at Hoffmann Reserve. Known for its unforgiving nature, this course demands not only skill but also patience and a calm demeanor. Reiss, who practices here frequently, seemed to be in his element. Despite the pressure of maintaining his lead, he demonstrated an uncanny ability to stay focused and composed throughout the round.

“My play this weekend was great. I was throwing well, putting well, just dialed and focused to take this one home,” Reiss reflects with satisfaction. “A course you must be patient with or it will bite you, and I stayed calm and focused the entire round.”

However, the journey to victory was not without its challenges. The second round saw Reiss grapple with a few unexpected hiccups, including a bad kick out of bounds and a rushed putt. Yet, the seasoned player remained unfazed, managing to pull away in the middle of the round. He ended with a score of 58, securing his position at the top of the leaderboard and taking home the trophy with a total score of 111, three strokes clear of his closest competitor.

“The presentation of the trophy was amazing. Having Crystal Heidenreich Burnett and kids present me with the trophy, showing up in Scott’s hot Rod, had me all in my feelings,” Reiss recalls, his words filled with emotion.

Beyond the thrill of the win, Reiss is grateful for the community that surrounds the sport. He appreciates the camaraderie and support from fellow players and fans who followed the event both on the course and online. “Thanks to everyone that followed along all weekend at the course and online,” he says warmly.

He also takes a moment to remember the tournament’s namesake. “It was a weekend I’ll cherish forever,” he says. “You guys did it exactly how Scott would have wanted it!”

Reiss’ victory at the Scott Burnett Open Championship is a shining example of his relentless pursuit of excellence in the disc golf arena. His performance serves as an inspiring reminder of the thrilling combination of skill, strategy, and focus that this sport demands.

As he continues his disc golf journey, Reiss extends his gratitude to his sponsors, including Tacky Saks. Their ongoing support plays a pivotal role in his success, allowing him to focus on the game he loves and compete at the highest level. The future holds great promise for Tony Mo Reiss, and disc golf enthusiasts worldwide eagerly anticipate his next performance.
